Being a compilation of terms used by members of the Ultima Dragons Internet Chapter. Links to the FAQ's in question are below. A list of Acronyms/Abbreviations in more general use on Usenet or IRC are listed seperately below the main table. A note: some of the newsgroups listed below are unlikely to be available, as they should have been cancelled and replaced with rgcud, rgcuo, and rgcus. Should have been is unfortunately not the same saying it has been, so the links have been included for completeness. But don't be surprised if you can't get the older groups, and ask your Usenet provider to get the rgcu.* groups if they do not carry them yet. UDIC specific terms. *P Dragons The original Prodigy Dragons. Aaron Quoted from the Newbie FAQ: "Q: Who is Aaron? A: Aaron was a practical joker back when the Dragons were still a Prodigy club. He liked to create clubs with names very similar to existing clubs, irritating a great number of people. When called on it, he responded with torrents of flame. This did not exactly endear him to the masses." AD Gun Anti Dragon Gun, once noteworthy as the second thing a new Dragon often saw on rgcud (the first is the remains of a pie in the face), this weapon is the property of of Pothead Dragon, and was often used to greet a new Dragon's first post, hence the pie which is the first thing seen. Age of the Dragons The name of the project once called the Dragon's Ultima, chosen after the infestation of lawyers. Now defunct. agud alt.games.ultima.dragons, the original Ultima newsgroup. aguo alt.games.ultima-online, the original Ultima Online newsgroup. AK Akalabeth, the Ultima precursor. Anadaking Posting a large number of small pointless posts to the newsgroup. Refers to Anadak, who first did this on Prodigy. cf Spam Bows, Blue A blue bow can be worn by male dragons to indicate their gender. Bows, Pink A pink bow can be worn by female Dragons to distinguish them from the males. However, actually suggesting this be adhered to is grounds for the female Dragon in question, along with Mdme Dis, to attach pink bows to the unfortunate male suggester's masculine anatomy with a White Hot Glue Gun. Cinnabon A Cinnamon Roll. Polychromic Dragon has a recipe on his website here. Cinnabons are the 'Traditional' Dragon food. Cinnabon's Cinnabon Bar A comedy plot thread that once was a long-term fixture of the Dragon's newsgroup. Cinnabon Dragon still pops in and makes posts about it from time to time. Cinnaguard, The A minor faction of formerly non-aligned Dragons formed during the Splutino/UnSplutable war, using Cinnabons as weapons. Founded by St George's Dragon and Filarion Dragon. CLOUDS Cake Loving Order of Ultima DragonS. Group that regards cakes as being worthy of their love and devotion. Founded by Abyssal Dragon. DAAMIT Dragons Against Archers Missing Intended Targets (or Dragons Against Annoying Musicians and Imbecilic Travellers), a Iolo hate group due to his appalling aim (or maybe excellent aim and appalling loyalty). Founded by Frenetic Dragon. Opposes FOSTI. DAMNSTOP Dragons Against Moa's Nefarious Series of Terrible One-line Posts, a group formed during Moa Dragon's days of anadaking. Originally intended by Vulcan Dragon as a joke, irritation with Moa at the time was sufficient for the group to gain a noticeable membership. DE Abbreviation of Dragon Edition. DFB Dragons Front of Britannia, an old faction of Dragons for Dragons, with Bones Dragon at it's head.Visit the DFB if you choose. DLF Dragons Liberation Front, a group opposed to Lord British due to persecution of Dragons. Now nothing more than a memory, this group was opposed by the PVLB. The leader is Geomorphic Dragon. Dolphins An old joke that has kept on going. It refers to the 'flexability' of certain portions of a dolphins anatomy. Don't ask. DOTNET Deputy of The Never Ending Thread. Dragon A member of the UDIC. Dragons are rampant individualists, so further generalisation is impossible. Dragon Edition The special edition release of Ultima IX: Ascension, containing additional goodies, including an ankh pendant and a music CD. Dragon Press The archive of Ultima and UDIC fanfiction maintained by Shadow of Light Dragon. Dragon's Ultima, The A project by members of the UDIC to create a new Ultima game as a gift for Richard Garriott. Origin's response on finding out about it was through the lawyers, with no other communication with the participants. Renamed the Age of the Dragons to avoid copyright issues. Now defunct EA Evil Avatars. Lead by Chaos (formerly Titanium Dragon), this was one of the original factions on Prodigy. Old opponents of the PVLB. Encore Collection An early compilation of the PC versions of U1 to U6 for the PC, this release was most noticable for difficulty in running and the lack of any documentation for the games. This lack was rectified by a released manual giving technical information (also added to the CD's later on), but it was Micro Dragon who provided MS Word versions of the original books, while Trigon Dragon has produced a partial selection of PDF versions. EfMD Escape From Mt Drash. Vic20 Cartridge. Good luck finding the original. Look to Peroxide for a remake. Fork Lord British's Fork. Don't touch, lest he send you into the Darkness. (It's actually a mug in U6, so go figure) FOSTI The Foundation Of Support To Iolo, a group dedicated to fighting the negative opinions about Iolo. Founded by Earendil Dragon. Opposed by DAAMIT. FoV Forge of Virtue, the Ultima VII addon. Game, The A game where the participants are required to continue posting, using words of one syllable only. It is derived from the game played by Chuckles in U7. GMOTUDIC Grey Moustache of the UDIC. Greeters, The Greeting Team, The The volunteer Dragons who maintain the UDIC Roster and handle requests to update membership information. Their leader is Unicorn Dragon. Not to be confused with the casual greeters on rgcud who throw pies at new Dragons. Greybeard A Dragon who has been in the UDIC for at least a year. Yes, the term does apply to females as well as males. GUPPES Good Ultima Players Pounding Evil Slime, this group on Prodigy later became the PVLB. GVT Government, something that caused so much trouble on Prodigy that the UDIC is a permanent anarchy. Health Vader The foe of Cinnabon's Cinnabon Bar, this creature has remained mostly inactive despite the Bar's recent sporadic activity. Killfile A filter set up so that posts defined by the user will not be displayed. Usually used to ignore threads or offensive persons/trolls. Lord British, LB Alias of Richard Garriott, creator of the Ultima series. The ruler of Britannia. Linux An OS that is used by many of the Dragons in preference to Windows, due to better performance and stability. Not to mention cost (free). Visit the homepage here. Mao Word introduced by Musashi Dragon. The meaning is unknown, but he occasionally scatters clues about it. It is also a challenge to the newsgroup to deduce the meaning from the context of its usage. MD Abbreviation for Worlds of Ultima II, Martian Dreams. Mr Nose Nickname for Lord British (talk to Iolo or Chuckles in U6) Muppet, The The Guardian. Run Serpent Isle with 'serpent hisss jive' and no sound for an explanation. NEP Never Ending Peacock. NET Never Ending Thread. Never Ending Peacock, The The Never Ending Peacock is a long running poem. Anyone who feels like participating is free to add a line to the end of the verse. The thread split into two separate poems early on. Normally it has four participant created lines in a verse, followed up with a variation of the phrase '... In the Misty Towers of the Ivory Peacock.' There are exceptions to this rule though... The Never Ending Peacock is being archived here. Never Ending Thread, The A fairly long running thread, originally intended to find out how long it could run. It was created by Dantec Dragon in early July 1998, and shows no signs of dying as yet. Indeed it was over 50% of rgcud for a short period before voluntary limitations were imposed by the participants. The NET has spawned a new faction, TNET. Phonehole. Amusing term for a telephone jackpoint coined by Moa Dragon and adopted by Mdme Dis. Pie Foodstuff thrown by Dragons for assorted purposes. Usually cream or custard, but other types are used. The sound of impact of a pie is *SPLUT!* Pie of God A giant flying cream pie created by CHaiNSaW DRaGoN, this airborne menace has been seen trolling i... oops... striking fear into distant newsgroups under the direction of its master. Plonk The act of putting an obnoxious Usenet poster into a Killfile, so that person's posts will no longer be visible to the plonker. Plot Thread A cooperative venture into storytelling by a number of participants. They range from slapstick through to serious fantasy. Some of the rgcud plot threads are being archived here. POL Context: "woman always say they want a nice guy and then walk of with the first prick on legs that walks in the room." The original comment this was based on was by Thirith Dragon. POTOTHNET Paladin of the One True Holy Never Ending Thread. Prodigy This company provided a computer bulletin board service. The original Ultima Dragons had their beginnings there. Currently Prodigy is phasing out the bulletin boards, but the Dragons have long since moved to the Internet. PUFF Founded by Doug Ricket (Gold Dragon) on Prodigy, the Players of Ultima For Fun was on the recieving end of a Puff the Magic Dragon comparison from one of the EA's. This resulted in the group being renamed the Ultima Dragons. PVLB The Protectors of Virtue and Lord British and led by Whisper Dragon, this defunct group opposed the DLF., and prior to that, the EA's. The PVLB was originally the GUPPES. Ranzer An early example of a troll, who was immortalised by the use of his picture for a dartboard at Cinnabon's. Reorg, The The splitting of the rgcu-d newsgroup into rgcud, rgcuo, and rgcus. This measure was hotly debated, and grudges are still held between some of those on opposite sides of the debate. Revoker, The Recently appearing individual opposing *SPLUT!*ing. Has become noticed rather rapidly, but staying power has yet to be determined. Formerly in possession of Dracos Dragon, the Revoker now seems independant. rgcud, rgcu.d The rec.games.computer.ultima.dragons newsgroup. The haunt of the Dragons who frequent Usenet. While Ultima is a topic, so long as something is of interest to a Dragon, it is considered to be on-topic. Expect to see anything from Ultima, through Linux, to the best means of stopping cats from marking territory. rgcu-d The former Dragons newsgroup, rec.games.computer.ultima-dragons, now supposedly defunct. However many Dragons still only recieve this one, so it is polite to crosspost between rgcud and rgcu-d. cf The Reorg. rgcuo The rec.games.computer.ultima.online newsgroup, for discussion of Ultima Online and any further multi-player Ultima games. rgcus The rec.games.computer.ultima.series newsgroup, specifically for questions relating to gameplay or technical problems with the Ultima series of computer games. SE Abbreviation for Worlds of Ultima I, The Savage Empire SI Abbreviation for Ultima VII, Part 2, Serpent Isle. Sir Geoffrey NoCem Notice These notices are the creation of Contrapuntal Dragon's agent Sir Geoffrey, who is charged with controlling the Trolls and Spammers. SLAPPP!!! A sure sign of irritation on the part of Vulcan Dragon. SS Silver Seed, the Serpent Isle Addon. Spam Commercial posting to a non-commercial usenet group, pointless junk posts (cf Anadaking) & unsolicited email. A Spammer is someone who creates Spam. *SPLUT!* A phenomenon introduced by Samurai Dagon and Frenetic Dragon. 1. The sound made as a pie strikes a Dragon. 2. The act of throwing a pie at a Dragon. Not to be performed on non-dragons. 3. A common greeting in response to a new Dragon's first post to rgcud. Splutinos, The 'Crime Family' of Dragons, which exists to oppose the UnSPLUTables. Don Samurai is the boss of this mob. Super Avatar Brothers Ultima VIII, so called because of the incessant jumping required. THWTGS Quote from Mdme Dis: "The Hanky With The Grey Splotches, which Mdme proffers to distraught dragons." TNET The Never Ending Thread Faction, as distinct from NET, which is the Never Ending Thread itself. The TNET was founded by Musashi Dragon, with the following goals: To have fun with the NET To protect the NET; to do something (preferably nasty) to those who post in the NET without an association, and To further the goals of the NET with variations, welcoming (and *SPLUT*!ting) newbies, etc. They are apparently warring with the UnSPLUTables, if any of them can be found to feud with... <G> TNETter A member of TNET. Three Stooges, The Iolo, Shamino, and Dupre, who follow the Avatar around everywhere. Transbowtite A Dragon who wears a bow of the wrong colour. cf Bows, Blue & Bows, Pink. Troll An individual which makes posts designed to attract negative responses. See Ranzer for an example. U? ? is a number from 1 to 9. This abbreviation refers to the cardinal Ultima games (1 to 9 respectively). UA, U:A Ultima: Ascension, formerly U9. Generally considered to be a failure. UC The Ultima Collection (U1 to U8 and Akalabeth, released 1998) UDIC The Ultima Dragons Internet Chapter #UDIC The UDIC IRC Channel, another major gathering point for members of the UDIC. Ultima A long-running series of computer role playing games, created by Richard Garriott and currently owned by a company called Origin. The reason why the UDIC exists in the first place. Ultima Raider Derogatory name for UA, so called because of the similarities in perspective between UA and Tombraider. UnSPLUTables, the A group of Dragons who take pride in having avoided being *SPLUT!*ed in their first month on the rgcud newsgroup. Lead by Talrean (as much as anyone) they take part in group activities, especially against the Splutinos. Ibn al-Hazardous Dragon: "As for the UnSPLUTables, we're a group of pie-slingers who were not SPLUTed within the first month on RGCUD. We see it as our resposibility to uphold the force of law and greeting as well as we can, and the faction war against the Splutinos of course." Currently the UnSPLUTables are in the throws of a Proletarian Revolution, led by Ibn al-Hazardous Dragon. Their revolutionary manifesto is "CREAM TO THE PEOPLE!" They also have a feud with the TNET. UO, UOL Ultima Online (the second abbreviation is rarely used) UO: T2A Ultima Online, the Second Age. An addon area. UO3D Ultima Online: Third Dawn. 3D client and area for UO. UU1, UW1 Abbreviations for Ultima Underworld I. UU2, UW2 Abbreviations for Ultima Underworld II. Wayfarers, The A group dedicated to following the Way of the Avatar in real life. Seek their Homepage for more details. Weyrmount, The The Dragon's MOO, and another of the commonly frequented UDIC haunts. Visit the Homepage and take a look.
